Once people spend time with farm animals in a loving way ... a pig or cow or a little chicken or a turkey, they might find they relate with them the same way they relate with dogs and cats. Why should they be food when other animals are pets? I would never eat my doggies.
Hollywood actress

Alicia Silverstone is a Hollywood actress, animal rights advocate and author of “The Kind Diet”

Becoming a vegan was not an overnight transition for Alicia Silverstone. She recounts flirting with vegetarianism since childhood, influenced by her brother at the young age of 8 years old. However, it was not until the age of 21 that she finally converted completely towards a vegan diet.

However, it was a documentary on farm animals related to their life and slaughter that Alicia saw at the age of 21, that convinced her to finally convert completely to a vegan lifestyle. In her own words, "I just took a look at my dog and said, 'If I'm not willing to eat you, how can I continue to eat these other creatures that have the same desire to live, are just as funny, just as cute as my dogs?'

During the filming of the 1995 comedy Clueless, Alicia Silverstone (18 at the time) was suffering from severe asthama, insomnia, full blown acne and constipation Now, at 33, she says she sleeps like a baby, doesn't worry about her weight and has tons of energy. "I used to have all those white marks on my nails and they were very brittle, and now they're so strong I cannot bend them," she says. "My eyes got really white, and I feel like I look less puffy."

Alicia's experiences inspired her to create a vegan cookbook called The Kind Diet. "The kindness is about being truly kind to yourself first," she says. "Letting yourself have the best health and look your best and feel your most vital."

Quotes:
I was not going to contribute to the violence in the world anymore.
I don't take any of the medications I took when I was younger: antibiotics, antacids, aspirin, asthma inhalers, ulcer medication, allergy shots.
Nothing’s changed my life more. I feel better about myself as a person, being conscious and responsible for my actions and I lost weight and my skin cleared up and I got bright eyes and I just became stronger and healthier and happier. Can’t think of anything better in the world to be but be vegan
Once people spend time with farm animals in a loving way ... a pig or cow or a little chicken or a turkey, they might find they relate with them the same way they relate with dogs and cats. I know what it feels like to be hurt, and I don't want to cause that pain to any other person or creature. But somehow, in society, we numb ourselves in order to make money or to feel better about ourselves, such as with cosmetics or food. We say to ourselves, I'm going to use this animal. I'm going to say it doesn't have much worth so that I can allow myself to do these cruel things. And that just isn't fair.
